William (Bill) Simpson Cannon, III age 81, of 204 Calvert Avenue died Sunday, August 11, 2013 at his home.
He was born in Spartanburg and was the son of the late William S. Cannon, Jr. and Irlene Vaughan Cannon.
Mr. Cannon graduated from Wofford College in 1953 with a BS in Mathematics and the University of Florida with a Masters Degree. He retired in 1994 from Presbyterian College and was of the Presbyterian faith. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
He is survived by his wife, Jerry Corbett Cannon of the home; two sons, Retired Colonel William (Corey) C. Cannon (Sue B. Cannon) of Clinton, and Retired Colonel Lawrence A. (Larry) Cannon (Margaret W. Cannon) of Kathleen, GA; eight grandchildren, Eric C. Cannon (Kara D. Cannon), Katie V. Lawson (Anthony), Camryn C. Branham (Chris), Tommy H. Venable, Ashley A. Cannon, Alison C. Johnson, Thomas L. Cannon and Harrison V. Cannon; five great-grandchildren, Ryan Cannon, Cooper Branham, Lucy Branham, Morgan Johnson and Logan Johnson; and a nephew, William S. Cannon, IV.
He was predeceased by a brother, Jean V. Cannon.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 13th at 3:00 p.m. at Gray Funeral Home Chapel.
