Ruby Farmer Crapps age 94 and widow of James Tallie Crapps passed away Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at Trident Medical Center in Goose Creek, SC.
Ruby was born in Goldville (Joanna) S.C. and was the daughter of the late Joseph Lee Farmer & Louise Whelchel Farmer.
Ruby retired from Greenwood Mills Joanna Plant and was a devoted member of Fairview Baptist Church, where she was the oldest member. She lovingly served as a children’s Sunday School teacher, nursery worker, and Church Treasurer. Ruby also served as an usher at the Newberry Opera House and was an Administrator at Weight Watchers for many years. She loved her Church family and if there was a Church event, she was deeply involved. Ruby was given the nickname “Jewel” by many of her church family.
Ruby treasured her family, enjoying time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her devoted son, Michael Long (Polly) of Charleston, SC; son-in-law, Tommy Banks of Clinton; stepdaughter, Kippie Avinger (Wayne) of Kinards; stepson, Johnny Waits and stepdaughter, Laura Hatton (Bill) both of Simpsonville; five grandchildren and twelve step grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruby is predeceased by a daughter, Karen Banks; stepson Travis Crapps; a husband, William (Bill) Waits Jr.; sisters, Frances Traver, Mildred Morris, Edna Crolley, Lois Sirmans; brothers, Earl Farmer, Frank Farmer, Raymond Farmer.
Funeral services will be conducted at Fairview Baptist Church, Kinards S.C. at 3:00 PM, Monday, February 9, 2026 with Rev. Sam Cox officiating Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:00 prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tn 38105.
