Roy Lawson, Jr.

Roy Lawson, Jr., age 84, of Kinards, SC husband of Joyce Lawson, passed away, Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Self Regional Healthcare.

He was born August 11, 1941, in Cross Anchor, SC, and was the son of the late Roy Lawson Sr., and Onnie Lawson. Roy was a Veteran of the US Army and retired from the City of Clinton as Assistant Superintendent of Public Works and Utilities.

He was faithful member of House of God in Newberry, Roy deeply loved spending time with his family and friends. He especially cherished watching his grandsons compete in dirt track racing, college and high school sporting events, coaching football and watching his grands and great grands grow.

Roy is survived by his wife, Joyce of 63 years; his children, Barry (Mitzi) Lawson of Kinards, Mandi (Wesley) Elledge of Laurens, Melody (James) Martin of Whitmire, and step-son, Gilbert Kellis of Bagdad, AZ; his grandchildren, Devin (Jessica) Lawson, Casey (Daisy) Lawson, Brandon Elledge, Ryan Elledge, Carson Elledge, Cayson Elledge, Gabriel Martin, and step-grandson, Tanner Kellis; his great grandchildren, Hunter Lawson, Clayton Lawson, Braylen Lawson, Ayla Lawson, Maelee Lawson and step-great grandson Wesley Kellis; his special nieces, Michelle (Todd) Stott and Tina (Joe) Moody. He is also survived by his special friend and fishing buddy, Robert Blauchett.

In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry Lawson and Billy Ray Lawson; his sister, Dorothy (Sissy) McKee; and his grandson, Devon Reid.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Clinton with Rev. Bobby Lowman officiating. Burial will follow at Pinelawn Memory Gardens.

The family will greet visitors Friday, May 8, 2026, from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.
