Robert Calvin “Cal” Quesenbury, Sr., son of the late John Quesenbury and Alena Miles Quesenbury, was born on January 2, 1931, in Spray, North Carolina. After graduating from Leaskville High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War from September 1951 until January 1954. He received an early honorable discharge so that he could pursue his college education.
While serving in the Air Force, Cal became a Christian. Throughout the remainder of his life, he joyfully shared his deep and abiding faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He graduated from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, in May 1958. In August of that year, he married Shirley Jo Ann Brazell Quesenbury of Whitmire, South Carolina.
Cal devoted much of his professional life to education and guidance. He taught English at Berea High School in Greenville during the early 1960s. After earning his master’s degree in education, he served as a guidance counselor at Enoree Vocation Center, Greenville Technical College, and Shannon Forest Christian School from the late 1960s through the early 1980s.
In 1982, Cal returned to North Carolina, where he continued his career in education. He taught at James E. Holmes Jr. High School in Eden, and later served as principal of Stone-Eden Christian School in Stoneville. His commitment to Christian service was also evident through his active involvement with Gideons International in the Greensboro area for more than 20 years. He was a longtime and faithful member of Guilford Baptist Church in Greensboro.
During the final months of his life, Cal resided at Patriot Village in Sumter, South Carolina. He especially treasured the time he spent there in the company of his fellow United States military veterans.
Cal is survived by his daughter, Robin Hill (Mike), of Whitmire, South Carolina; and his son, Robert Calvin “Cal” Quesenbury, Jr. (Karen), of Winter Springs, Florida.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Keith “Kip” Kirkland, Jr. (Destiny), of Greer, South Carolina; Brian Hill of Union, South Carolina; Kaci Davis (Nick), of Union, South Carolina; John Kirkland of Greenville, South Carolina; Kendra Kirkland Huggins (James), of Little Mountain, South Carolina; Megan Hill of Union, South Carolina; Caleb Quesenbury (Kimberley), of Winter Springs, Florida; Jacob Quesenbury of Hampton, Virginia; and Ethan Quesenbury of Winter Springs, Florida.
