Rebecca Stevenson Turner, age 99, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Bailey Manor Retirement Community.
She was born in Fairfield County on March 14, 1914 and was the daughter of Mr. J. E. and Mamie Weir Stevenson. She married Marvin S. Turner, Sr. in 1940 and they had one son, Marvin S. Turner, Jr. Mrs. Turner was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Turner was educated at Mt. Zion Institute in Winnsboro and then graduated from Erskine College in Due West, SC. She dedicated her life to teaching and throughout her career as a teacher she taught in Kentucky, Michigan, New Jersey, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Canada, Ohio, and finished her teaching career in Clinton, SC. Mrs. Turner was a devout Christian and for 72 years was a faithful member of the ARP Church and in recent years became a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Clinton, SC.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews and other special friends and family members as well as her Bailey Manor family where she has lived since 1997 and she reveled in the fact that she not only has lived at Bailey Manor longer than everyone else, she was also the oldest resident at Bailey Manor. She always enjoyed the visits and phone calls and wanted to thank those that shared these times with her.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 11th at 3:00 p.m. Bailey Manor in the Anderson Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Lebanon Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Winnsboro, SC with the Rev. Jim Roberts and Rev. Grover Timms officiating.
