Rebecca Irvine Smith

Rebecca Lynn Irvine Smith, 70, of Columbia, passed away, Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at her home.

Born October 1, 1955 in Beckley, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Dr. William Dane Irvine and Virginia Dare Bailey Irvine. She graduated from Clemson University and retired from The State newspaper. Rebecca was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her sister, Sarah Cheek (Hal) of Gray Court.

In addition to her parents, Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, James H. Smith.
