Nancy Geraldine Martin Henderson

On May 13, Nancy Geraldine Martin Henderson, much loved wife, Mom, and Nanna, passed away in Laurens, SC at the age of 85 years.

Born on October 30, 1940 in Joanna, SC, she was the daughter of the late Grady Martin and Louise Hill Martin. She married her husband, Edward Lowell Henderson, on October 8, 1960. Soon after, they built their home in Joanna, SC, where they lived until 2023. Geraldine has resided at NHC Healthcare in Laurens since 2023.

Geraldine loved the Lord and worked faithfully in her church throughout her life, serving as a Sunday School teacher and singing in the church choir for many years. She was also active in the Good News Club after school program, teaching children in her community about Jesus.

For much of her adult life, Geraldine babysat children in her home. She had a genuine love for the children she cared for and formed lasting relationships with many of them.

Geraldine took great pride in being a wife and mother. She demonstrated her love in tangible ways like sewing, cooking, and caring for them. Even after Geraldine went to live at NHC Laurens, she talked constantly about needing to “get home and make supper.” But in addition to these physical expressions of love, she also made a lasting impact by always having a listening ear and giving advice on life and love to her daughters. She was a true example of a Godly wife and mother.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 63 years, Edward Lowell Henderson. She is survived by two daughters: Tammy (Cal) Bankston of Cumberland, RI and Cheryl (Robert) Parris of Laurens, SC; five grandchildren: Brady Bankston, Bailey (Bankston) Winters, Bryna (Bankston) Cumplido, Bevin Bankston, and Kayla (Parris) Gamble; ten great-grandchildren; and her brother, William Martin. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Raymond Martin.

We will celebrate Geraldine’s life on Friday, May 22, 2026 at Bellview Baptist Church, Laurens, SC. Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 PM with Cal Bankston officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery in Kinards, SC.
