Mason Charles Motes, II

Mason Charles Motes, II, age 63, husband of Beverly Bell Motes, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2026 at the Prisma Health Laurens County Hospital, after a sudden illness.

He was born in Greenwood, South Carolina on May 12, 1963 and was the son of the late Mason Charles Motes and Elisabeth “Libby” Coats Rhodes. Mason was a former employee of the Laurens Advertiser, Avery Dennison, The Greenville News and Bell Insulation. He was a long time NASCAR fan, enjoyed working on cars and fixing things for his family because “that’s my job” is what he would say. He was also a member of Todd Memorial Presbyterian Church

Mason is survived by his wife of 15 years; Beverly; his children, Mason Charles Motes, III, Johnson Motes, Julia Motes, Destry Morse (Danica), Hannah Morse (Dan), Alyssa Morse (Brock); his dad, Danny M. Rhodes: his sister, Kate Rhodes Treadway (Kenny); his grandchildren, Kaitlin Morse, Grayson Morse, Carson Morse, Brody Rogers, Daniel Eger Kathleen Eger, Theo Luben, Penelope Luben; his great-grandchild Luke Creasy; his niece Kenly Treadway and his nephew Charlie Treadway.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, August 16, 2026 at Gray Funeral Home Chapel in Laurens at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Charmaine Pannel officiating. Burial will follow at the Westview Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends the hour before the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home.

The family is at the home of Mason Motes, III.
