Mary Ann Dillard Stewart

Mary Ann Dillard Stewart, age 97, of Cross Anchor, widow of Angus M. Stewart, Sr., passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025.

She was born in Cross Anchor and was the daughter of the late Warren Dillard and Gladys Wilburn Dillard. Mary Ann graduated from Cross Anchor High School, attended Lander College and went on to graduate from Charlotte Memorial School of Nursing in 1951.

After graduating from nursing school, Mary Ann worked in Rock Hill for a short time before moving back to Cross Anchor. She worked many years for Dr. Walker and Dr. MacDonald in Clinton, and Thornwell Children’s Home and retired from Clinton Mills (Lydia and Bailey Plants) in 1994. She spent her life caring for others. Mary Ann was a faithful member of Cross Anchor United Methodist Church where she served in many rolls, including treasurer for 40 years and the oldest member of the church. Her church was her joy!

Mary Ann was devoted to her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Katherine Stewart; her son, Mac Stewart (Renee); her granddaughters, Melissa Shull (James), Kendall Harvey, Mary Hannah Stewart Holbrooks (Andy); great-granddaughters, Emma and Ava Harvey.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her beloved cat “Lucky”.

The family would like to express their gratitude to special caretakers, Cathy Wright, Malinda McNinch and the staff of VIA Hospice.

A Graveside Service with Nurses Honors will be held at Cross Anchor United Methodist Church Cemetery on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Brian Humphries officiating. The family will greet friends in the church social hall from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM.
