Mary Martin Snelgrove, age 93, of 205 Phillips St. and widow of John B. “Doc” Snelgrove passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the Hospice House of Laurens County.
Born in Granite Falls, NC, she was the daughter of the late Bert and Cordea Beech Martin and was a member of Springdale United Methodist Church. After retiring from Hallmark Shirt Plant in Clinton, she accomplished a life-long dream of nurses training, as she was available and interested in helping others. In her early years and during retirement, she volunteered much time as a Sunday School teacher, treasurer of the UMW and in many other capacities at Bailey Memorial and Springdale UMC since 1952. She enjoyed spending time with her lifelong friend, Mary Lou Rochester. During her short stay at Hospice House of Clinton, the staff made her very comfortable and she had an easy passing.
Mrs. Snelgrove is survived by her son, John D. Snelgrove and his wife, Frances, of Clinton; a son-in-law, Bob Thomas of Clinton; grandchildren, Rod Thomas and wife, Nancy, of Statesboro, GA; Ty Tucker of Kinards; Ryan Thomas and wife, Belinda, of Hodges; Daphne Tucker of Joanna; Lisa Snelgrove Wescott and husband, Danny, of California, and Jeffrey David Snelgrove and wife, Tina, of Arizona; a special nephew, Rick Jackson; 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews and many unofficially adopted children.
She was predeceased by her husband, J.B. Snelgrove; two daughters, Rose Snelgrove Thomas and Margaret Snelgrove Tucker; two brothers, Henry S. Martin and Victor Martin; and one sister, Nannie Smith.
