On June 2, 2026, Mary Jean Copeland-Myers was tenderly surrounded by angels and triumphantly escorted to Heaven. Our loss was Heaven’s gain. Still our broken hearts find joy in knowing she is finally home. No doubt our Heavenly Father rewarded Mary with the words from the Parable of the Talents, “Well done my good and faithful servant.
Mary was born on December 13, 1961 at the Blalock Clinic in Clinton, SC. She was the second child of her proud parents Sara Alice Templeton Copeland and William Don Copeland, Jr. who eagerly greeted her in Heaven. Mary leaves behind her three children whom she fiercely loved…Tegan Myers of Clinton, Andy Myers of Denver, Colorado and Caroline Myers of Laurens. In addition, she leaves behind her sister, Nancy Anderson Mason, her brother-in-law, Charles Mason and her brother, Donnie Copeland.
After graduating from Laurens District 55 High School, Mary attended Clemson University and graduated with honors. She began her exceptional career in nursing at the Medical University of SC in Charleston. She later earned her master’s degree and became a certified nurse midwife. She was published as a result of her extensive research on twins and gestational diabetes.
Upon her return to her hometown, she became an instructor in the nursing program at USC Upstate. She also earned her Six Sigma Black Belt during this same time. Mary continued to teach until, to her dismay, her cancer battle made it necessary for her to retire early. Throughout her career she not only brought new life into the world, but genuinely touched the lives of her students who called her “Mother Mary.”
Services will be held at Mary’s childhood church, Leesville Southern Methodist Church in Clinton, SC. The service will be led by Pastor Tom Jackson on June 13, 2026 at 1:00 PM. Mary’s family looks forward to greeting family and friends following the service. Her ashes will be lovingly spread at her “happy place” on her ancestorial property in a private ceremony.
Mary’s family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and care shown by VIA Hospice, Gibbs Cancer Center and Palliative Care of Spartanburg Regional.
Flowers may be sent to the Gray Funeral Home of Clinton. Donations may be made Laurens County Memorial Home, P O Box 638, Laurens SC 29360.
