Mary "Mamie" Hamilton Burris

Mary “Mamie” Hamilton Burris, age 78, of Laurens, widow of Roger Burris, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at NHC of Laurens.

Mary was born October 29, 1946 in Laurens County, SC, and was a daughter of the late J.W. “Billy” Hamilton and Lyl Walker Hamilton. She worked with Laurens County DSS and retired from Thornwell. Mary was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of Laurens. She served as past President of the Laurens County Exchange Club, the Fair Association, and the SC State Exchange Club.

Mary enjoyed hunting in her younger years, but her family became her life’s greatest joy.

She is survived by her sons, Matthew Gilstrap (Simone) of Austin, TX, Mark Gilstrap (Patricia) of Mauldin, and Mitchell Gilstrap (Melissa) of Laurens; her grandchildren, Gracin, Peyton, Audrey, Eli, and Riley Gilstrap; her sisters, Laura Fanning (William) of Augusta, GA, and Lee Westmoreland (Jim) of Laurens; her sister-cousin, Jane Childs of Clarksville, GA; and her beloved fur-baby, Maggie Mae.

A Celebration of Mary’s life will be held, Tuesday May 13, 2025 at 11:00 AM, at First Presbyterian Church of Laurens with Rev. Dr. Mike McCracken officiating.

The family will greet visitors immediately following the service at the Church.
