Louise Vaughn Motes

July 7, 1931 — January 15, 2014

Dateline—Clinton, SC

Louise Vaughn Motes, age 82, and widow of Thomas R. Motes, Jr. died Wednesday, January 15, 2014 in the Laurens County Hospital.
Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Louella Fuller Vaughn. She was retired from the Bailey Plant and was a member of the Lydia Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mrs. Motes also played piano for Long Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Louise Motes was a caring, compassionate and Christian woman whose actions spoke far louder than words. Her faith was evidenced in her doing for others, often for those with no advocate or supporter. She loved the lonely, the outcast, the dispossessed. Although she and her predeceased husband, Thomas, had no children of their own, their home was open to children from many generations. She was the second mom to many adults who now look back and see the work of Christ through her and her husband.
She lived a life of simplicity recognizing it wasn’t what one accumulated but what one gave away. Her life was a testament to a belief that we must all be our “brother’s keeper.”
Her laugh was infectious, her faith resolute, and her kindness inexhaustible. Louise was an avid prayer warrior who often ended conversations with “Let’s have a word of prayer.” In essence, Louise Motes’ life was one of continuous prayer through her actions, attitudes, thoughts, words, and deeds.
Mrs. Motes is survived by her sister, Mildred Stidham of Delton, MI as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 18th at 3:00 PM at the Lydia Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial in Pinelawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends before the service at 2:00 PM at the church.
Memorials may be made to Lydia Pentecostal Holiness Church or a charity of one’s choice.
