Lawrence Steven "Steve" Melton

In Loving Memory of Lawrence Steven “Steve” Melton

Steve Melton, age 75, of Whitmire, SC, passed away peacefully at his home on August 11, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Born March 9 in Chester, SC, he was the son of the late Clyde and Polly Melton. Steve was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and most proudly, “Papa.” His life reflected love, kindness, and the lasting impact he made on everyone he met.

A faithful follower of Jesus Christ, Steve found strength and joy in his faith. He served as a deacon and cherished member of God’s Healing Spring Baptist Church, where he built deep friendships and lived out his faith through encouragement, prayer, and steady presence. His church family held a special place in his heart.

Steve will be remembered for his warm spirit, humor, generosity, and the way he made others feel welcomed and loved. He especially treasured time with family and friends, creating countless memories that will be cherished for years to come.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kay Melton; his children, DeeDee Williams, Robert Harrison (Dawn), and Misty York (Garrett); eight grandchildren, Stephen Lawton (Jana), Austin Williams (Grace), Kaitlin Diamente (Sebastian), Collin Harrison (Caitlynn), Kassidy Harrison, Wesley York (Tiffany), Nick York (Kate), and Sydney Moyer (Blake); and nine great-grandchildren, Owen, Rylan, Luke, Kade, Paislee, Roman, Giovanni, Rowan, and Millie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Wayne.

Steve’s faith, love, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026 at 3:00 PM at God’s Healing Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Tobias officiating. The family will greet friends from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to Gods Healing Spring Baptist Church, Children’s Ministry, 328 Old U.S. Hwy 176, Whitmire, SC 29178.

“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.’” — John 11:25
