Lanny E. Word, Sr., age 81, of Waterloo, SC, husband of Judy Ledford Word, passed away, Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at his home.
Born August 19, 1944 in Laurens, SC, he was the son of the late Claude E. Word, Jr. and Mary Evelyn Pulley Word. Lanny retired as management from the textiles industry. He was a car and plane enthusiast and had his private pilot license. He was a member of the Scotland Rods and Relics and considered himself a “Motorhead” and enjoyed NASCAR and drag racing.
Lanny was a member and Deacon at Rosemont Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; his children, Lanny E. Word, Jr. (Daniel), Melissa “Missy” Frost (Stacey), and Linda Dunlap (Chris); his grandchildren, Rhett O’Hara (Stef), Rory O’Hara (Sacora), Dillon Frost, Blake Pruitte (Nikki), and Chris Dunlap, Jr. (Nathan); and his great-grandchildren, Nylus O’Hara, Alexander Zamorano, and Gianluca Zamarano.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Laurens with Rev. K.J. Shorter officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
The family will greet visitors prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
