Lanny R. Heffner, age 61, of Laurens, SC, died peacefully at his home on Friday, February 21, 2014.
Born January 3, 1953, in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of the late Lawrence Warren and Gladys Marie McCarney Heffner. He was the husband of Sharon Lee Hinton-Heffner.
He was a 1971 graduate of Overlea High School in Overlea, MD. He was a self-employed contractor specializing in custom built log homes and was the owner/operator of Westminster Contractors in Westminster, MD.
He was an active member of Open Door Community Church in Belton, SC. He was a charter member of Taneytown Baptist Church of Taneytown, MD. He contributed much to the community in his volunteer work including serving as a Guardian Ad Litem for Laurens County, disaster relief ministries, and the founder of Beacon of Hope Ministries.
He enjoyed bowling and was an avid classic car buff, winning a number of trophies over the years for his classic cars.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are two sons, Richard “Ricky” W. Heffner, and Jon L. Heffner, of Baltimore Maryland; a daughter, Christina L. Adkins of North Carolina; and a brother, Warren “Pete” Heffner and wife Susan, of Vernon City, New York.
He was predeceased by a son, Bryan Heffner.
A memorial service to celebrate Lanny’s life will be held at Lake Rabon Estates Club House, West Peninsula Drive, Laurens, SC on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at Open Door Community Church, 227 Youth Center Road, Belton, SC 29627.
