Kay P. Powell, age 67, of Anderson, wife of Richard Powell, passed away Friday, July 17, 2026 at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital in Easley.
Born March 4, 1959 in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Talmadge Melmoth Patterson and Vivian Kathleen Campbell Patterson.
Kay is survived by her husband of 43 years, Richard; her daughters, Kathryn Powell, Kathleen Powell (Trevor Whitehurst); her brothers, Bill Patterson (family friend Jim Miller), Robin Patterson (Jennifer); her sisters-in-law, Sharon Parnell (Jimmy), and Janis Baskin (Rick); her brother-in-law, Randy Powell (Cindy); she has many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews who love her.
Kay was an educator in Anderson School District Two for 38 years, teaching home arts at Honea Path Middle School 23 years and Belton Honea Path High School for 15 years. After retiring from District Two she took an assistant’s position in the two years old class at Trinty Preschool in Honea Path serving until her bypass surgery in March. The last four years, she served as the onsite administrator.
A Celebration of Kay’s life will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 101 Main Street, Honea Path, SC 29654. The family will receive friends and family after the celebration.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 101 South Main Street, Honea Path, SC 29654; Trinity United Methodist Church Preschool, 101 South Main Street, Honea Path, SC 29654; or Patterson Chapel Methodist Church, 27390 Highway 221 North, Enoree, SC.
