John Norris King, age 65, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2025, at his home.
Born on December 29, 1959, in Greenville, South Carolina, John was the son of the late Richard King Sr. and Joyce Alverson King. He retired after 30 years of dedicated service with the Disability and Special Needs Board, where his commitment and steady presence reflected the care he showed in every part of his life.
John was a beloved grandfather to nine grandchildren and took great pride in being an active, involved part of their lives. He was always on the move and never one to sit still for long, happiest when he was busy, helping others, or spending time with family. Known as a lighthearted prankster, John’s sense of humor and playful spirit brought laughter wherever he went.
An avid golfer, John found joy and camaraderie on the golf course, a place that perfectly matched his love for activity and good company. Golf was more than a pastime—it was one of the many ways he stayed active, social, and fully engaged with life.
John is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia “Cindy” King; his daughters, Nicky Lanford (Ben) and Catie Thomas (Kyle); his brother, Richard “Skip” L. King Jr.; and his cherished grandchildren, Sullivan, Benson, Willa Cate, Evie Mae, John Henry, Braxton, Emy Cate, Oliver, and Wynnie.
Above all, John will be remembered for his presence: steady, reliable, and full of heart. His laughter, energy, and love will live on through his children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at 3:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Clinton, with Rev. Jeremy Sparks officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service in the sanctuary from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
