James A. “Jim” Roberts, of Clinton, South Carolina, age 96, passed away on January 7, 2026, at home with his wife Janet at his side.
Jim Roberts, a graduate of West Virginia University, served in the Air Force and was stationed in Japan for two years. Following a business career in advertising, Jim found his true mission as the visionary and founder of Good Shepherd Free Medical Clinic. Good Shepherd opened its doors on September 8, 1994, and today provides free medical services to those that don’t qualify for Medicare, Medicaid, or cannot afford private insurance. He was awarded the Jefferson Award and the George Love Philanthropy Award for his work at Good Shepherd. In May of 2025, he received formal recognition by the South Carolina General Assembly for his commitment to his community. Jim loved hiking, cycling, and gardening, but his family most of all. At age 58 he earned his FAA Private Pilot License and was always up for a new challenge.
Jim is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Havard Roberts of Morgantown, West Virginia. He is survived by the love of his life, Janet Paulus Roberts. The couple celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary last year. Jim’s four children are Paulette Roberts-Pullen (John), Amie Roberts Packer (Mark), Tobin Roberts (Julie), and Whitney Roberts McDuffie (John).
