Jack Moore Thompson, son of the late William Wilker and Lucile Moore Thompson, passed away Tuesday, February 17, at his home in Waterloo, SC. He was 87 years old.
Jack grew up in Glenn Springs, went to Roebuck High School and attended Spartanburg Junior College. After school, he joined the US ARMY and served in Germany. While in the army, Jack was a linesman and was an awarded marksman. Afterwards, Jack married Carolyn Price, from Landrum, SC. They had three children. They were members of First Baptist Church of Cross Hill, where Jack served as a Deacon for a short time.
Jack established and ran Thompson Electrical Company until his retirement when he turned his business over to his son, Jake.
Jack was an avid outdoorsman in every respect. He loved nature, wild animals, horses and dogs. He loved hunting and fishing. During his early years Jack would go out early before leaving for school to check his rabbit gums, many times returning with a reward. His passion for dogs led him into the world of dog training and field trials. Here, he earned accolades and awards for his regional field trials excellence. Later in life he would enjoy gardening, growing vegetables and many different kinds of fruit trees.
A lifelong love of music and dancing brought Jack and Carolyn to the Greenwood Shag Club. This outlet rewarded them with fun and friendships that lasted for many years. Jack’s ever ready smile and friendly manner will be greatly missed.
Jack is survived by his wife of sixty one years, Carolyn Price Thompson. Children: Tara Baldwin (Kenny), of York, SC; Jake Thompson (Leslie Moon), of Waterloo, SC; Lisa Patterson (Breck), Clayton, GA; Sister: Nancy Thompson Oglesby (Frank), of Beaufort, SC. Grandchildren: Bethany and Hannah Baldwin, Zachary and Chase Thompson, and Cylvie Patterson.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Terri Thompson and grandson, Chandler Patterson.
A graveside service will be held at Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Ray Hollifield, Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church of Cross Hill officiating, on February 25, 2026 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Jack with memorials to First Baptist Church of Cross Hill, 761 N Main Street, Cross Hill, SC 29332
