Helen Byars Edge, of 1 Martha Franks Drive, Laurens, died Sunday, Dec. 1 at the age of 95. Helen was born in Greenville on Sept. 30, 1918 to Felix and Lula King Byars. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Laurens. Helen was preceded in death by husband Joseph Harvey Edge. Helen is survived by a son Larry Edge and wife Fay of Laurens, a daughter Sharon Edge Stringer and husband Bill of Liberty, SC, and grandson, John Allen Thompson IV of Columbia, SC, as well as a sister, Launa Fleming, and niece Sandra Fleming and nephew Courtney Fleming of Lanford, SC, and special nephew Richard K. Byars and wife Susan of Laurens. She was preceded in death by brothers F. M. Byars, Jr. and Robert L. Byars, and sisters Elsie Byars Corn and Myrtle Byars Sawyer.
Helen was a resident of the Martha Franks Retirement Community for 25 years, where she was a member of the Martha Franks Singers. Helen enjoyed playing her harmonica with the Singers, as well as in the Martha Franks dining room.
Special thanks go out to the caregivers, nurses, minister, and dining hall staff at Martha Franks Retirement Center. Additionally the wonderful contribution of her caring companions Annette Adelgren, Joyce Holder, Gena Childs, and Dorothy Dublin is much appreciated.
