George Danny “Dan” Lewis

Funeral services for George Danny “Dan” Lewis, 83, of Whigham, GA, are at 2:30 p.m., Monday, July 20, 2026, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Rev. Ron McCaskill will officiate. Services will conclude at the chapel. Private interment will be in Tired Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Cairo, GA. Mr. Lewis passed away at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, GA, on Saturday, July 18, 2026.

Active pallbearers will be RW Jones, Gage Faris, Doug Powe, Dan Powe and Wesley Powe.

Mr. Lewis was born on October 2, 1942, in Joanna, SC, to the late John Richard Lewis and Ruby Leonia Elliott Lewis. He served his country in the United States Army. He attended the University of South Carolina and Presbyterian College, where he received his degree in engineering. He was a longtime employee of Timken. He retired after 40+ years of devoted service.

Dan supported his community for many years through civic clubs, the swim team, and recreational sports. He loved playing golf, working in the yard, and fishing. He owned a sailboat and enjoyed sailing. Dan also loved to travel and to spend time with his family.

He can best be described as a true Southern gentleman.

Survivors include: his wife, Ann Powe Davis Lewis of Whigham, GA; children, Danielle Jones (Todd) of Cairo, GA, Patrick Lewis (Cassie) of Tallahassee, FL; grandchildren, Hailey Jones of Cairo, GA, Rhett "RW" Jones of Cairo, GA, Gage Faris of Tallahassee, FL; Harper Lewis of Tallahassee, FL; sisters, Susan Lewis Simpson of South Carolina, Rev. Gladys Key Lewis “Happy” Shaw (Doug) of New Mexico; sisters-in-law, Willa Rae Lewis and Kay Lewis, both of South Carolina; the mother of his children, Jamie Culbertson Lewis of Cairo, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; and brothers, John Richard Lewis, Jr. and James Edward Lewis, both families of South Carolina.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Lewis' memory to: The Grady County Honor Guard, P. O. Box 1234, Cairo, GA 39828; or any hospice service of your choice.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home immediately following the service.
