Evelyn Hughes

Evelyn Hughes, age 77, wife of Billy Ray Hughes, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Prisma Health Hillcrest Hospital in Simpsonville.

She was born on May 5, 1948 in Woodruff, South Carolina and was the daughter of the late Joe James Pike and Lina Jo Godfrey Pike. After 30 years of employment, she retired from Kemet in Simpsonville. Evelyn was a member of the Fountain Inn Church of God and loved to cook for others as a ministry to the Lord.

Evelyn is survived by her husband of 59 years; her son, Pastor Jamie Hughes (Christina); her daughters, Traci Hughes and Ashley Holcombe (Tim); her six grandchildren who affectionally called her “ Nou Nou”, Amanda Alvarez (Scott), Josh Hughes, Nick Hughes (Cheley), Alex Hughes, Samantha Altemeyer (Jimmy), Billy Holcombe (Whitney); her five great-grandchildren, Emryn Hughes, Logan Altemeyer, Jaxson Altemeyer, Riley Altemeyer and Jonah Altemeyer.

In addition to her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Crowder.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2025 at Fountain Inn Church of God at 3:00 PM with Rev. Dr. Eddie Allen and Pastor Terry Wilkerson officiating. The family will greet friends at the church from 1:30 PM – 2:45 PM. Burial will follow at Highland Home Baptist Church Cemetery in Gray Court.
