Obituary for Emily Lewis Dillard, born Dec. 15, 1920, died May 8, 2015
On May 8, 2015, Emily Lewis Dillard entered the Church Triumphant. She was born on December 15, 1920, in Clinton, SC. She was predeceased by her parents, Wrenn Hafner and Larry Byrd Dillard of Clinton, and by her sisters, Mary Howze (“Daught”) Forsyth and Irene (“Bebe”) McSween. She is survived by seven nieces and nephews and their children, all of whom she loved as if they were her own: Margaret Forsyth Humphries, Emily Forsyth Younger, John Dillard Forsyth, Allen McSween, Jr., John Dillard McSween, Larry Dillard McSween, and Kathy McSween Ambrose. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and the Presbyterian School of Christian Education, Richmond, VA. She served as Director of Christian Education at the Presbyterian Church in Union, SC, Rogersville, TN, Abbeville, SC, and First Presbyterian, Greenville, SC. Emily was an avid tennis player, winning the town championship in Clinton, SC, in 1937, 1938, and 1941. She was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church, Clinton, SC. She will be remembered most fondly for her deep faith, her warm, outgoing personality, her love of children and her joy in teaching them about God's love, and her devotion to her family and wide circle of friends from all walks of life. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 12, at 3:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, Clinton, conducted by the Rev. Joe Brooks and the Rev. Allen McSween, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Presbyterian Communities of SC, First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 29, Clinton, SC 29325 , or Palmetto Hospice.
