Eleanor Jean Rae Suber, age 85 departed this life Monday, July 8, 2013, at National Health Care Parklane, Columbia, SC.
She was born, November 4, 1927, in Cleveland, OH. Eleanor was orphaned in infancy and raised during her early years by her grandparents, Michel and Julia Szilagy. In later years she lived with her maternal aunt and uncle, Betty and Art Taylor in Crown Point, IN.
Following in her Aunt Betty’s footsteps, she went on to nursing school at Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago, IL, graduating in 1949. Eleanor continued her career in nursing and worked in New York, NY, Chapel Hill, NC and even as a camp nurse at Joy Camp in Hazelhurst, WI before returning to Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago.
It was there she met her husband, Roy Bonds Suber, who completed his internship in medicine. She and Roy married on Aug. 3, 1955, and returned to Roy’s hometown of Whitmire, SC, where he established a practice in medicine as a general practitioner.
Eleanor and her family moved to Clinton, SC in 1963. Eleanor became active in the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton and was a lifelong member. She was also a member of the Meligram Club and enjoyed painting in watercolors and entertaining in her home.
Eleanor was a gentle and sweet person who always maintained a caring disposition. She was successful in providing a loving home for her family and pets over the years.
She is survived by her daughter, Lea Suber Black, son-in-law Robbie A. Black, Jr. and her beloved grand dogs, Ellie and Otis all of Columbia.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Graveside services will be Saturday, July 13th at 11:00 a.m. in Whitmire Cemetery in
Whitmire , SC with visitation at Gray Funeral Home, Whitmire on Friday, July 12th from 6 to 8 p.m.
