Elbert C. Whelchel, age 87, husband of Sylvia Farmer Whelchel, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at his home.

He was born on June 7, 1938 in Goldville, South Carolina and was the son of the late Johnny Benson Whelchel and Agnes Holbert Whelchel. Elbert started his young career as a mechanic, leading to owning his own business and a Car Dealership. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Joanna, a Mason and Shriner and a US Air Force Veteran. Elbert’s favorite hobbies were collecting vintage cars, traveling with his wife and family. Elbert’s greatest joy was loving and spending time with his family.

Elbert is survived by his wife, Sylvia of 70 years; his son, Jody Whelchel; his daughter, Buffy Osborne (Monty); his grandchildren, Taylor Estes and Bailey Faulkner (Shayne); his great-grandchildren, Averie Estes and Dallas Faulkner.

In addition to his parents, Elbert is preceded in death by his brothers, Michael Whelchel and Otis Whelchel.

Graveside services will be held on April 1, 2026 at 4:00 PM at Pinelawn Memory Gardens with Rev. Arnold Hiette and Rev. Monty Osborne officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.
