He was born in Clinton and was a son of Emma Crapps Shipes and the late D.P. Shipes, Jr.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his sisters, Ann Smith (Dave) and Angie McGee (Barry), and his brother, Sammy Shipes.
He was predeceased by his father, DP Shipes, Jr., and his brother, D.P. Shipes, III (Buster).
