Cornelia Dickson Young

Doris Cornelia Dickson Young, age 96, widow of Charles William Young, passed away, Friday, April 3, 2026 at Hospice of Laurens County.

She was born on January 29, 1930 in Gaffney, SC and was the daughter of the late Benjamin Clifton Dickson and Hester Iowa Hayes Dickson.

Cornelia retired as a dental assistant for Dr. Marion Lawson. She was faithful member of Hurricane Baptist Church and was the first recorded marriage at the Church. She was a member of the Golden Age Club and Silver Lining Club.

Cornelia is survived by her son, Benny Young (Patricia) of Lugoff; her daughter, Charlene Smith of Spartanburg; her seven grandchildren, Amanda Smith Wolfe, Jennifer Carole Smith, Jeremiah Young, Joseph Young, Joshua Young, Brandon Pledger, Dillon Pledger; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband Charles of 65 years, Cornelia is preceded in death by her daughter, Tami Pledger and son-in-law, David Smith.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Hurricane Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with Rev. Jake Patterson and Rev. Jeremiah Young officiating.

The family will greet friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM in the sanctuary prior to the service. Burial will follow at Hurricane Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Greg Hellams officiating.
