Christine (Tina) Marie Rice

We are saddened to announce the passing of Christine (Tina) Marie Rice, 76 years old, of Houston, Texas.

Tina was born on June 4, 1948 to Ernesto V. Kahn and Rose R. Kahn in Manilla, Philippines. After graduating from high school, she moved to San Antonio, Texas to attend Incarnate Word College to receive her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.

Tina met her husband, William (Bill) Elbert Rice, in San Antonio while Bill served in the United States Air Force in 1967 at a college dance that Incarnate Word College held jointly with Randolph Air Force Base. Tina and Bill married on February 7, 1970.

After marrying in San Antonio, Tina and Bill moved to Houston, where she had two children, Christopher Russell (Rus) Rice, and Stephanie Melissa (Lisa) Perez. She was a dedicated mother, committed to raising their two children. While she took care of the Rice family household, she was also a strong, independent minded woman who provided her children with an amazing, caring, and vivacious role model. Further, she ran her own import/export business of Philippine goods, took various roles in childcare, teaching, and administrative industries, and supported functions at her children's and grandchildren's schools. Tina was a doting grandmother to her two grandchildren and was very active in their day to day lives. Last, she had a great love for all animals, and her care for her many pets reflected the deep, nurturing spirit that she was.

Those who had the tremendous privilege to be her family, or even know her, are deeply proud of this amazing woman and will miss her greatly. Her legacy of kindness, generosity, and love will continue to inspire us every day.

Tina was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents on both sides, her husband William Elbert Rice, and her daughter, Stephanie Melissa Perez. She is survived by her son, Christopher Russell Rice; her grandchildren, Sierra Perez and Gabriel Perez; and her sisters, Rose Marie Kahn Hugo, Margaret Mary Kahn Garcia, Elizabeth Mary Kahn Hoog, Cecile Marie Kahn Fonacier, Pauline Kahn; and brother Ernest Kahn Jr.

A memorial service was held on April 30, 2025 at the Houston National Cemetery in Texas, where she was buried alongside her husband of 53 years.

Tina Rice will always be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. We take great comfort knowing that our memories of her will live on in us. She is now reunited with her husband, absent from the body and face to face with the Lord. She is in a place of no more sorrow, no more tears, no more pain, no more death; the old things have passed away.

Gray Funeral Home is sharing the obituary for Mrs. Rice as a courtesy to her family.
