Charles Lindberg Wicker, husband of Ruth Hunnicutt Wicker, of 121 Horseshoe Circle, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 31, 1927 in Newberry County and was the son of the late Willie M. and Nannie Mae Perry Wicker.
Papa Charles, as he was known to everyone, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He was retired from Cone Mills, where he worked for 40+ years. He loved his church, First Baptist Church Whitmire, where he served as a deacon and faithful member. He was dedicated to his family and loved working in his wood shop, where he was always carving bowls, making clocks and furniture, and giving the handmade treasures away.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 67 years are his four children, Amelia (Tommy) Shields, Stanley (Darlene) Wicker, and Bill Wicker, all of Whitmire and David (Teresa) Wicker of Kinards, S.C.; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; and two sisters, Marie (Ralph) Sligh of Newberry and Beatrice (Benny)Willard of Greenwood.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 4th at 3:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church Whitmire with burial in Whitmire Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 4th, at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Whitmire, prior to the funeral service.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Senn, Steve Senn, Scott Hunnicutt, Mike Senn, Kenneth Dickerson, and Derrick Gilliam.
