Bohdan Remingjusz Kramm, age 84, husband of Phyllis Davis Kramm, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2026, at the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro, South Carolina.
Born December 19, 1941, in Białystok, Poland, to Mikolaj (Nicholaus) Kramm and Jadwiga (Louise) Radziwinowicz Kramm, Bohdan’s early years were shaped by extraordinary resilience. As a child, he and his family endured the hardship of labor camps during World War II before being liberated in 1945. In 1949, at the age of 7, he immigrated to the United States with his family aboard the General Sturgeon, arriving through the Port of New Orleans. The family was sponsored by a cotton mill in Joanna, South Carolina, where they began their new life in America.
Bohdan grew up in Joanna and went on to serve his adopted country with distinction as an electrical engineer in the United States Army. After his military service, he continued working with technology, retiring from Monsanto, where he contributed his talents in the robotics lab. Bohdan was always ahead of his time—curious, skilled, and drawn to innovation.
Outside of work, Bohdan was a man of sharp intellect, quiet humor, and endless curiosity. He was an accomplished pianist with a deep appreciation for music and technology alike—always eager to explore computers, video games, and the latest innovations. He was often found tinkering in his vast computer room, joyfully introducing his grandchildren to technology long before their first words or steps. When he moved into his retirement community, he found yet another purpose, quickly becoming the unofficial IT expert in residence—patiently teaching fellow residents how to use their devices and happily fixing anything that wasn’t working around the facility.
He was also a man of great faith, which he expressed through his gift of music, playing beautiful piano instrumentals of beloved hymns—from classic hymnals to more recent compilations. He held a special love for the King James Translation of the Bible, and above all, he treasured his personal relationship with the Lord.
Though life required him to grow up far too soon, he never lost his ability to find joy in simple things. He loved movies and strawberry milkshakes, had a lifelong fascination with dinosaurs, and brought levity to life with his quick wit, love of a good prank, and an ever-present twinkle in his eye. He was also a loyal Carolina Gamecocks fan—often sporting garnet and always ready to cheer on his team. Above all, he was a devoted family man who found deep pride and purpose in his role as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Bohdan is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis, with whom he shared 37 wonderful years of marriage; his son, Jay Earl Pierce Jr. (Heidi); grandchildren, Meredith Hall (Blake), Megan Gwinn Nix (Ray), Susan Motes Bentley, and Ben Motes; his great-grandchildren, Bryce Bentley, Morgan Bentley, Cameron White (Elaina), and Jaidyn White; his nephew, Jeff Kramm (Gina); his niece, Kimberly L. Herring; his great-nephew, Nathaniel B. Herring; and his best friend since childhood, Kent Stroud (Mary).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mikolaj (Nicholaus) Kramm and Jadwiga (Louise) Radziwinowicz Kramm; his brother, Master Sergeant George Raymond Kramm, United States Air Force (Janice); his sister, Katazyna Kramm; and his daughters, Cynthia Lynn Pierce and Terri Pierce Motes (Mason).
