Bobby Simpson

Bobby Simpson, age 93, of Greenwood, widower of Linda Poore Simpson, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2025 at NHC of Greenwood.

He was born August 30, 1931 in Clinton, SC, and was the son of the late George Robert Simpson, Sr., and Banna Nabors Simpson. A proud Veteran of the South Carolina National Guard, he dedicated his life to serving his community. Bobby retired from Whitten Center, where he served as Fire Marshal, and was also a volunteer fireman for the City of Clinton for 32 years. Bobby was a devoted member of Hurricane Baptist Church.

He is survived by his three sons, Bobby Welborn of West Columbia, Steve Welborn of Athens, GA., and Michael Welborn (Beth) of Hodges; and ten grandchildren.

The family would like to express special thanks to NHC of Greenwood, Caris Hospice, and especially Ashley Square for their compassionate care.

A Memorial service will be held, Sunday, June 8, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Hurricane Baptist Church with Rev. Jake Patterson officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hurricane Baptist Church, 2963 Hurricane Church Rd, Clinton, SC 29325.

Gray Funeral Home of Clinton is assisting the Simpson family with services.
