Bobby Joe Meadors

Bobby Joe Meadors passed away on Tuesday, November 3 at National Healthcare of Clinton. He was born May 18, 1931, and was the son of the late James Clair Meadors and Kate Watkins Meadors.

Even as a child, Bobby was known for his dedication to hard work. He and his brother, Charles, often helped their neighbors by taking on odd jobs, including delivering lunches to Clinton Mill and carrying groceries home from the Clinton Mill Store.

In May 1948, at age seventeen, Bobby enlisted in the South Carolina National Guard. After graduating from Clinton High School in 1949, he began working at Clinton Mill’s water filtration plant. Five years later, he became the full-time unit administrator for the South Carolina National Guard in Clinton where he served until his retirement from the Civil Service System.

After retiring as unit administrator, Bobby worked with the National Guard Troop Command in Columbia. Later, during Operation Desert Storm, he served several months with the U.S. Army supporting military families. He fully retired from the National Guard in 1991 with the rank of Command Sergeant Major.

Bobby cherished his church family at Davidson Street Baptist Church, where he was a charter member. Throughout the years, he faithfully served as a deacon, chair of deacons, church treasurer, and Sunday School teacher.

In addition to his parents Bobby was preceded in death by his his wife of 55 years, Betty Anne Campbell Meadors; his brothers, James Meadors and Charles Meadors; and his sisters, Ellen Meadors, Earline Ficklin, Louise Armstrong, and Anne Bagwell.

Bobby is survived by his children, Joey Meadors (Nancy) and Karen Windsor (Ronnie); six grandchildren, Bryan Meadors (Snowe) of Reidville, Russell Meadors (Ashley) of Simpsonville, Katherine Harmon (Brian) of Fountain Inn, Elliott Windsor of Greenville, Julie Whaley (Ken) of Piedmont, and Jeffrey Windsor of Gray Court; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his sister, Ruby Meadors Lanford. He is also survived by Margaret “Tootsie” Benjamin of Athens, Georgia, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at National Healthcare and Caris Healthcare for the compassionate care they provided during the past several months.
