Betty Mooney Jones, age 90, and widow of the late Robert “Bobby” Jones went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Woodbridge Senior Assisted Living in Clinton, SC. Betty was born on January 11, 1935, in Greensboro, NC, a daughter of the late Worth and Maude Duke Mooney. She was a graduate of Grimsley Senior High School, Mars Hill University and Carson Newman University. Betty retired from the Bristol Virginia City School System in 1991 after working for over 30 years as a teacher. She was a lifelong and very active member of the First Baptist Church, Bristol, VA and for the past 5 years, a member of the First Baptist Church, Clinton, SC.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Mooney, sisters, Vathoria Mooney, Margie Mooney and Mary Penny. Survivors include a son Nelson Jones (Amy) of Clinton, SC; daughter, Misti Clemente of Baltimore, MD; grandsons, Geran Clemente, Garrick Clemente (Sally Grace) both of Baltimore, MD; great grandsons, Xander and Greyson; niece, Bari Hunt (Doug) of Fort Mill, SC.
The memorial service for Betty will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at First Baptist Church, Bristol, VA with Dr. Kris Aaron and Dr. Gene Eller officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service in Rosser Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, c/o Special Music/Concerts Fund, 125 Sedgefield St., Bristol, VA 24201 or First Baptist Church, c/o Organ Fund, 301 South Broad St., Clinton, SC 29325.
