Alan Matterson Murphy

Alan Matterson “Butch” Murphy, age 75, husband of Bonnie Steadman Murphy, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at his home.

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 26, 1951 and was the son of the late Willie Lee Murphy and Mary Callahan Murphy.

Butch worked in maintenance at Laurens County Hospital. After earning his Master Electrician certification, he fulfilled his dream of owning a business where he became the owner and operator of B and B Electrical, Inc. of Edisto. Upon retiring, he returned to Laurens and was a member of Trinity Church of Laurens, South Carolina. Butch will be remembered as a good man who loved helping others. His greatest joy was his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Butch’s passion in retirement was working on his land.

Butch is survived by his wife Bonnie of 28 years; his children, Allan Murphy (Jennifer), Rachelle Herring (Jimmy), Karen Isbell (Lawrence); his stepchildren, Damon Roberts III, Jason Roberts; his brother, Dean Murphy; his sisters, Ellen Toney, Cindy Lonsberry, Kathie Woods, Donna Oglesby, Therese Rolf; his grandchildren, Andrea Byerly, Ashley Floyd, Scott Boyer, Carl Herring, Alex Murphy, Anna Murphy, Garrett Murphy; his five great-grandchildren; his twelve nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Butch is preceded in death by his brother, Willie Lee Murphy, Jr. and his nephew, Michael Patrick Olderman.
