Franklin Dwight Smith

June 17, 1939 - February 2, 2022

Franklin Dwight Smith, 82, widow of Brenda Joyce Chandler Smith, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at Prisma Health Laurens County Hospital. Born June 17, 1939 in Mountville, SC, he was the son of the late Carroll Dwight and Mary Annice Sprouse Smith. Mr. Smith had a very diverse professional career path - working for such companies as Home Wholesale, W.C. Baldwin Ford Motor Company, Pilot Life Insurance, Monsanto Chemical Company, and Greenwood Mills; owning and operating his own restaurant; and eventually retiring from the Security Team at Avery Dennison Corporation. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Joanna and the Magnolia Masonic Lodge #355. Surviving family members are his cherished son, Dr. Jason A. Smith; his beloved sister, Rita Smith Fernandes and husband, Raul of Massachusetts; a group of much-loved nieces (Natalie Jordan, Julie Fernandes, Dorothy Bigham, Cheri Seawright, Mary Goodman, Jill Alverson, Beth Goldsmith, and the late Crystal Chandler) and nephews (Tony Fernandes, Tommy Hazel, Johnny Goodman, Chucky Chandler, Buzzy Thomas, Eddie Thomas, and Joe Thomas); as well as the extended families thereof. Graveside Services will be held Sunday, February 6, 2022 at 4 p.m. at the Pinelawn Memory Gardens in Clinton, SC. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the graveside. If attending, the family kindly requests that all friends and loved ones follow CDC COVID-19 Guidelines (i.e. wearing of facial mask and social distance as best as possible). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made, in the name of Franklin D. Smith, to the Wounded Warrior Project – online at support.woundedwarriorproject.org or mailing a donation to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
