Frances Farmer Summers (Traver), age 91, of Clinton, SC passed away July 14, 2024 at NHC of Clinton after a short battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was born in Goldville, (Joanna) SC on May 23, 1933 to Joseph Lee and Louise Whelchel Farmer.
She grew up and lived most of her life in Joanna and raised her family there with her beloved husband of 48 ½ years, Thomas Summers, who preceded her in death in 1996. She worked in several companies, many of those years at Joanna Mills (Greenwood Mills) in the cloth room and as a weaver and at the Shakespeare Company in Newberry.
Frances was blessed with a large family including her daughter, Wanda Jean Summers of Newberry; Five grandchildren and their families: Brooke Summers (Chris) Shealy of Prosperity and their sons, Rhett (Madison) & Garett (Shanna) and their son, Cooper due in January 2025; Mandy Waters (Richard) Heisey of Laurens and their children and grandchild Justin Heisey (Katie) and their son Coleson of Fountain Inn; Cali Heisey of Raleigh, NC and Micah Heisey; Melissa Mahaffey Bikas of Flowery Branch, GA and her sons, Nolan and Thomas; Matthew (Andrea) Mahaffey of Laurens and Morgan (Kayleen) Summers of Lexington and their son Thomas. She is also survived by her devoted sister, Ruby F. Crapps of Joanna and sister, Edna F. Crolley and her daughter-in-law, Donna Summers.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Larry Summers; her sisters, Mildred Morris and Lois Sirmans; her brothers Frank Farmer, Earl Farmer and Raymond Farmer and her husband of 3 years, Jim Traver.
Funeral Services will be held at Pinelawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 – 3:00 at the mausoleum chapel. Interment will follow at Pinelawn Memory Gardens where she will be laid to rest beside of her husband, Thomas.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Northside Church Youth Program, where her grandson is the youth pastor, 818 Northside Church Rd., Laurens, SC 29360 or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
